Student Leadership
Chirnside Park Primary School is highly committed to consistent school wide and evidence–based wellbeing screening tools and interventions for students that help build a positive school climate where students feel safe and engage in their learning. One of the interventions that has a significant impact on students feeling connected to their school is Student Leadership.
The students at Chirnside Park Primary School are provided with the platform to enhance their skills in public speaking, problem-solving, teamwork and negotiation, as well as building respectful relationships, connections and belonging.
At Chirnside Park Primary School students are introduced to the idea of leadership through Junior School Council where class representatives from Grade 1 – 6 plan, implement and evaluate school wide projects that involve and benefit the school and wider community. Projects have included:
- The school wishing tree to support childhood cancer relief
- Whole School Toy Drive to support school landscaping projects
- Supporting a number of local charities through community donations
Student leadership at our school empowers your child in many ways. Students are able to contribute directly to decisions in areas they are passionate about. In the Senior School (Year 5 and 6) there are 28 formal leadership positions currently that students can apply for through a written application and presentation to their peer group. The entire senior student body selects the student leaders in our school, overseen by senior school staff.
