Physical Education
Physical Education classes are designed to enable students to build sport specific motor skills and movement patterns, to develop their sporting prowess, and also to be motivated about keeping fit and healthy throughout their lives. Students have many opportunities to take part in intra-school and inter-school sports competitions across all year levels. Athletics, swimming, Australian Rules Football, Netball, Tennis, T-Ball, Soccer, and cross country are some of the exciting programs on offer here.
Music & Performing Arts
In Music sessions we sing, dance and play instruments every week. The lessons are designed to enhance creative, mathematical and higher order thinking as well as developing self-discipline in a fun environment. Highlights of the Music program include: the yearly Prep-2 or 3-6 school production at the George Wood Performing Arts Centre. Private tuition is offered in guitar, keyboard, piano, drums and singing.
STEM Education
As the world of work changes, we will need to change our skills to match. Overcoming these limitations requires a priority focus on Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in Primary and Secondary schools, including the development of workplace skills in STEM. Future careers will also rely heavily on ‘21st century skills’ such as: Critical Thinking, Creativity, Cultural Awareness, Collaboration and Problem -Solving. When done well, STEM education complements the development of 21st Century skills. It is predicted that future workers will spend twice as much time on job tasks requiring mathematics, science, and critical thinking than today.
STEM Education is a new initiative for CPPS in 2023. Through STEM classes, students will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with hands-on learning materials such as: Robotics, design and construction, digital technologies, computer coding, 3D printing and various science experiments.
Visual Arts
The Visual Art program is designed to encourage and challenge students to achieve their artistic potential in an enjoyable and supportive environment. Students develop their creativity and imagination as well as refining their practical and fine motor skills. They learn to make choices when experimenting with materials, tools and techniques.
Throughout their time at CPPS students will get the opportunity to explore a wide variety of different art mediums such as drawing, painting, printmaking, digital design, collage, clay, sculpture, construction and textiles. Students learn to communicate through their art, and respond to the artworks of others. They explore the techniques of celebrated art pieces and gain a greater appreciation of well known artists and the impact they have had on the world.The artworks produced by our talented students are celebrated and displayed around the school.
The Art Room at CPPS is a wonderful place of creativity and exploration. It is a spacious, well equipped and inspiring learning environment.
Auslan
As part of our Languages Other Than English (LOTE) program at Chirnside Park Primary School the students have the opportunity to learn Auslan. Auslan is the native language of the Australian Deaf Community. Auslan is a visual-spatial, natural language with its own grammar and vocabulary.
All students from Prep – Grade 6 participate in 45 minutes a week of Auslan. During Auslan sessions, students learn to convey a message through a combination of hand shapes, fingerspelling, facial expression, movement, location and physical posture. The students begin by learning the alphabet, how to introduce themselves and fingerspell their name. Key signs are taught through whole class instruction, small group activities, games and songs
