School Wellbeing Officer
Chirnside Park Primary School is committed to providing a safe, secure and stimulating learning environment for all students. We understand that students reach their full potential only when they are happy, healthy and safe, and that a positive school culture, where student participation is encouraged and valued, helps to engage students and support them in their learning. Our school acknowledges that student wellbeing and student learning outcomes are closely linked.
Chirnside Park has recruited a full time wellbeing officer. The Student Wellbeing Officer is responsible for seeing students that have been identified by relevant parties (including classroom teachers, parents, year level leaders, executive leadership, psychologists, etc.) for specific issues detrimentally affecting their emotional affect, academic achievement, and social functioning at school.
Professional Services
The School Wellbeing Officer is responsible for ensuring that our learning environment is supported by visiting services, including Occupational Therapists, Professional Play Therapy providers, and Social Work/Psychologists.
The Student Wellbeing Officer’s role in face-to-face individual sessions with students is to listen to identified issues, provide appropriate advice/strategies relative to the expertise of the position, assess whether further/external assistance is required, and refer on where required.
Outside of individual sessions, the Student Wellbeing Officer is responsible for compiling specific and detailed case-notes, leading Student Support Group meetings, providing summary notes for relevant stakeholders, and assisting in the creation of preventative programs aimed at larger student cohorts where required.
